Definition. Normalized drawings [cn-0008]

A normalized drawing is an admissible drawing [cn-0004] whose edges are polygonal, are straight near vertices and crossings, and have no crossings between adjacent edges [cn-0002]. Distinct outward spokes at a vertex have distinct directions. Independent edges may still cross repeatedly.

These conditions allow crossing signs and local spoke orders to be read from straight segments. Normalization [cn-0009] preserves the endpoints as abstract graph vertices and does not increase the ordinary point count; it need not preserve the original vertex positions.
