Definition. The endpoint-corrected intersection matrix [cn-0013]

For a normalized drawing [cn-0008], combine the interior intersection counts [cn-0010] and spoke-order signs [cn-0011] into the endpoint-corrected intersection matrix

\[J(e,f)=I(e,f)+\frac 12\sum _{v\text { common to }e,f}\sigma _{ve}\sigma _{vf}T_v(e,f),\qquad J(e,e)=0.\]

Its star block \(J^{ik}\) is the \(n\times n\) matrix \(J^{ik}(p,q)=J(ip,kq)\). At a first-class vertex all incident orientations are outward. Since adjacent edges do not cross, \(J^{ii}\) is exactly its half-order matrix. For \(i\ne k\), the entry with \(p=q\) can have an endpoint term at \(b_p\); entries with \(p\ne q\) are purely signed crossing counts.

The half-endpoint terms are essential: cycle pairing [cn-0016] vanishes for \(J\), and cannot simply be asserted for the interior-count matrix alone.
